We make leather figure-8 foal halters that are absolutely the safest halter to use on a youngster.
Top horse breeders everywhere recommend leather (never nylon) figure-8 halters for foals, especially those younger than six weeks. Why? They fit better - there's no loose strap hanging under the chin for a foal to get hung up in when it reaches up with a hind foot to try to knock the halter off. They snug around the foal's face and make it much more difficult to snag a hoof or get caught on a fence.
We make them in two sizes:
- Young - for newborn foals and for minis. A young foal will outgrow this size fairly quickly, but you'll want to get your foals halter-broken as early as possible.
- Older - for foals from a month or so until weaning (or whenever you decide to move up to a normal yearling halter).
Our foal halters are made of English bridle leather - very smooth, supple, and strong, and with minimal care they will last for years. Colors vary according to what hides we have in stock when we make the halters.
Every halter has a removable leather catch-strap.
What makes our halters special is the near-side snap-fastener. Instead of buckling a halter on a fidgety foal, you simply hook/unhook a small spring snap to a dee ring. Very quick, very safe. The halter adjusts for growth with a buckle and extra length on the off-side.
